Touched down at Penang International Airport at around 9.15 am. Niece Siew Wen was there to fetch us to her house to get a car to be used for these few days in Penang and Sungei Petani. Actually this trip to Penang was to attend Apple Eng’s wedding in Sungei Petani. As we arrived early by one day, so we decided to explore Penang Island before going to Sungei Petani.
We drove to Cititel Express George Town for checking in. This hotel is quite new and is ideally situated near to Penang Road.
So immediately we unpacked and walked to Penang Road for a bowl of Penang laksa and of course the must-try cendul!
After that, we walked leisurely to Chew Clan at Jalan Pengkalan Weld to visit the Unesco World Heritage site. Actually I have not visited this area before even though I have been to Penang many times.
After exploring the site for a while, we walked backed again to Penang Road as we thought walking is the best way to explore though the sun is scorching hot. This time we used another route to Penang Road. We had char koay teow and ice kacang!
In the evening, we drove to Gurney Drive for our dinner. As this area is famous for tourists, it was packed with people. Nevertheless, we managed to get a table and we had Penang white laksa.
After breakfast, we walked to Prangin Mall and also 1st Avenue Shopping Mall just situated opposite the hotel for window shopping just to kill the time actually. At noon we checked out and proceeded to airport to fetch Han Boon and Julian. We then went to Ayer Hitam to try the famous Penang laksa!
Arrived at Swiss-Inn Sungei Petani after about an hour’s drive from Penang. In the evening, we went for a swim at the hotel swimming pool. This hotel is a bit rundown. It’s situated at the housing estate of Sungei Petani.
At night we all attended the wedding dinner at Jade Garden Restaurant, Sungei Petani. Well, this is a good time to meet up with our relatives!
Tea ceremony commenced at 9.00 am at Apple Eng’s house.
After attending the tea ceremony at Apple Eng’s house, I went to meet up with some old form six classmates at the Mae Salong Thai Restaurant, Sungei Petani. Have not met Chew Sin and Kok Gep for more than 30 years! We had a nice time together.
Back to Penang again in the evening and we stopped at Chye Kiang’s house for a visit as mom has not been to here house in Butterworth.
At night we put up at Koon’s house.
