Buy Nikon D5100 or Canon EOS 600D?

This is the current most favorite question that is being asked by most of the people..

I will guide you step-by-step on how to decide 🙂

First question: Do you own a DSLR before?

If the answer is yes, then you might want to consider the same brand if you have already bought extra lenses before this..

If you have lots of old lenses for Nikon, then you might consider other model of Nikon such as Nikon D7000 since Nikon D5100 does not have the built-in AF motor..

So you can’t use the old lenses which does not have the AF motor such as the Nikkor 50mm f1.8D..

For Canon, no prob for the lens compatibility issue here 🙂

If the answer is no, then you can proceed.

Second question: Do you prefer video taking or still-image more?

If the answer is video, then you might consider Canon since Canon 600D can take

  • 1920 x 1080 (30, 25, 24 fps)
  • 1280 x 720 (60, 50 fps)
  • 640 x 480 (60, 50 fps)

While Nikon D5100 can take

  • 1920 x 1080 (30, 25, 24 fps)
  • 1280 x 720 (30, 25, 24 fps)
  • 640 x 424 (30, 25 fps)

Differences? the 60fps in Canon

Canon also has stereo audio channels while Nikon has mono audio channels.

If the answer is still-image, then you might consider Nikon D5100 since Nikon D5100 can take better image under high ISO with the new APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm) sensor which is same as Nikon D7000.

Third question: Do you need very high ISO?

If you really need it (which I doubt), then you might consider Nikon D5100 since it has ISO up to 25,600 while Canon 600D only has up to 12,800..

Other features are pretty similar for both models.. Hope this helps 🙂
