Whooping 18 medical schools! Walao.. U all don’t graduate so fast leh.. So competitive!
My advice is to go IMU and take their twinning program to UK la..
If u have limited budget then go Manipal or AIMST.. Don’t go Russia.. Now Russian graduates have very very bad reputation in the local hospitals..
At least in Sarawak General Hospital I heard lots of stories la..
Yes, of course there are exceptions..
i have friends in IMU
I think IMU is the most established private medical school in M’sia
what do you say bout mahsa?
Mahsa has not produced any graduates yet but i would suggest u not to go new medical school coz they do not have much experiences.. but in the end still depends on individual
I cannot say Mahsa surely cannot produce good doctors right?
Aimst University in my hometown Kedah, recognised by World Health Organisation (WHO). Coincidentally Ahmad Badawi and Anwar Ibrahim’s hometown are also nearby in the north of Peninsula Malaysia. Refer Bernama’s News report here:-

Updated: 2012 / 2013
Malaysia boleh….I am a local phd graduate working in a UK university
I have seen a graduates from AIMST…she is so excellent in treating patient. From that i believe even private medical school can produce excellent doc.
I’m from MSU Shah Alam campus..everything is new here but we survived and im gonna enter my clinical year starting this October. Great lecturers…most of them are from India and Middle East. As we are the 1st batch here so we have a new facilities…cadaver…all the per clinical stuff and mannequin. Anybody interested can go to my blog and leave some massage.
Err.. Do i really have to leave some massage? Or will i get some massage with happy ending??
lol
Aimst University was listed in WHO recognition list last year. This year alone, JPA has sent 60 scholarship holders and for the past few years they’ve already sent quite a sizeable no. of them. You know lah, if you don’t have at least 9A+ you can’t get a JPA scholarship to do MBBS. This year 600 student doing Foundation Science have to fight for the remaining 140 seats yearly intake for MBBS. Quite tough but not possible especially good place for low budget student. Far much better than other private medical college and our local public universities which normally accept 1/2 past 6 student from asasi matrikulasi just to meet the 1M quota.
Where did you get to know that AIMST is recognized by WHO from? Can you post the link?
Eversince Aimst University was recognised and listed in WHO, more graduates from Aimst manage to gain acceptance by foreign universities to pursue their Masters and specialization as well.
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/10/26/nation/20101026135113&sec=nation
If anyone search thru the JPA medical recognition, most newly private university colleges are not listed yet. Only few’re listed like IMU, AIMST Uni, Manipal College and UniKL are listed b’cos they already produced graduate. Even UTAR medical faculty not listed yet.
wat is ur opinion about MBBS in UNIKL??is it recognize by JPA??
Provisional accredited right from their website? I thought it is a joined program with RCMP
yup, provisional accredited…its a temporary accreditation rite?i dun really understand what does the letter means…huhu…erm..RCMP is the college to study for MBBS programme under UNIKL =)
Of course, Aimst graduate can treat patient better. I’ve also seen it. They do their clinical training in our local environment. But for Russian & UK graduate they’ve a different style even for simple injection. Overseas graduate need time to adapt. They only can talk a lot, n most of the time patient don’t understand what they say.
Y u have to post 3 comments with diff name and the worst part is to use my name? LOL
R u medical student from Aimst and having Schizophrenia? LOL
Who said Aimst graduates are much better. In the hospital that I worked, all HO are almost the same standard in skill. The only difference is that, overseas graduate couldn’t communicate well with patient. Although the medicine given was the same type, the patient are quite reluctant to take the medicine given on time as most of them misunderstood the advices given.
Hi!
Just would like to ask between IMU, MONASH, PMC AND ACMS. which one is the best if I want to study medicine? Thank u..
If you are not so loaded, RMCP-UniKL is quite a good choice. You don’t need to opt for some Mat Salleh affluence univ./colleges in your first degree. All local private universities & colleges conducting medical studies approved by JPA are also approved by the Malaysian Medical Council. Even if you are loaded, save your money for Master studies or specialization overseas later. You can also proceed for further studies later at local universities like UKM, UPM, USM and MU if you have no intention of working overseas.
Sorry another one in the list mentioned above is RCMP-UNIKL.So,from these 5 medical unis, which one is the best place for me to study medicine?
Personally I would go to IMU and take the twinning program to UK.. if budget is quite tight, local IMU is ok as well.. Coz other medical schools are quite new while for PMC, i have a friend there.. They go to UK in the 1st 2 years and come back Malaysia for clinical years.. IMU’s twinning program is clinical years in UK which i think is better.. I met a few IMU twinning program students in Edinburgh.. they told me it’s good!
Thanx a lot…really appreciate it
If you have plan to further your study overseas, the better choices are some of those listed below by the International Medical Educational Directory (IMED) as listed by the US Board: UCSI, AIMST University, UniKL Perak are all listed whereas MAHSA, UTAR, MSU,Taylors and etc.not listed yet. Don’t take the risk;
https://imed.faimer.org/results.asp?country=624&school=&currpage=1&cname=MALAYSIA&city=®ion=0&rname=&psize=25
So, choose wisely for those proven.
My dauhgter have to choose between MD UKM twinning program under ACMS and MBBS at Bangalore, India under MSU. Which one is better? She wants to be a surgeon.
It doesn’t matter to do MBBS or MD if she wants to be a surgeon. MD and MBBS are equivalent and I know a lot of people would think that “MBBS” is superior to “MD” because of the “surgery” word in MBBS. But they are equivalent.. just that MD is US, MBBS is UK system..
A lot of Difference in MBBS & MD
the later is Post Graduation & Specialization
MBBS is Just a Bachelor Degree in Medicines
i Had seen Guys returning from EU/CHN To India after completing MD had to go for 1+ Year training to be approved by MCI
Nah.. I’m taking MD right now and i’m still undergraduate ok!
Hi Everybody,
I am planning to go into Medical University in Malaysia next year. However, I am in dilemma of choosing between Private Medical University and Government Medical University.
Do most of the private medical students get employment after they have graduated?
Also, I am interested in IMU twinning programme, do the overseas universities offer scholarship in Phase 2 for MBBS?
Thank You !
Previously all doctors no matter from local or private uni will get a job.. but for future i do not dare to say.. with the oversupplies of HO soon, not all HO may get a job..
i’m not sure about the scholarship for overseas uni.. u have to checkout with IMU for this..
hi… i’m studying in aimst… just wanted to inform you guys that the tuition fees for mbbs here this year onwards is rm 300k….
Aimst University tuition fee is not RM300K. Its tuition fee is RM250K only but after adding all the nonsense fees like medical lab, clinical fee, computer lab fee, blah..blah. blah.. fees, its added up to slightly more than RM300K, eventhough partially subsidized by the government.
among all the medical schools discussed above, what do you reckon about Taylor medical school? Is there a twinning program as well?
Hello. Do you know of any other medical schools in malaysia and India which accept AIMST foundation in science? What about veterinary in malaysia? Thanks (=
u meant u wanna switch course?
Manipal Medical College definitely accept but have to undergo an interview first. Shouldn’t be any problem as some Aimst foundation student who can’t make it to MBBS 1st year (b’cos of limited seat at Aimst) were accepted to Manipal Medical College (Ka Ki Lang – mostly Indian professor). Some managed to get into Monash Sunway and MAHSA Damansara. However beside the Aimst Foundation, your SPM should be OK plus, of course, RM or $ must be strong also.
How about IMU? What happen if can’t proceed to degree level after Aimst Foundation, as you said limited seat at Aimst. Do IMU accept others’ Foundation?
Sorry…IMU only accept A-Level or the least KBU Damansara’s Foundation in Science. You must have MUET English language plus RM$RM$ language must be strong also, at least half a millionaire.
pls recommend any good college or university for foundation in science .very confuse about that.
Hi, i’m not sure about good uni for foundation.. But if u’re going to study medicine after that, can straight away take the pre-U foundation at respective university
Hey i have only limited budget and i wish to study locally…. what school should i choose? MSU? AIMST ? pls giv me some suggestion thx
Yes, u can take AISMT, or Manipal or uTAR.. AIMST or manipal are more established
Hi LDS, I’m more familiar with local universities as my former college mates and friends are all over Malaysia. Aimst, UTAR and Cyberjaya University College are among the cheapest private local univ./college. Manipal is slightly expensive as you have to spend the first 2.5 years overseas in India. Slightly better one up the rank is RCMPerak-UniKL and the training hospital is just right across the road in Ipoh. Tuition fee is RM277K and not much hidden fees.
Which one is cheaper foundation or a-level??????
and which job is most demanded job medicine or dentistry???? thank u…..
I would say foundation but it depends which uni r u going to study the A level as well.. Now doctors are getting more & more.. u can try dentistry but i’m not sure whether it is getting saturated.. so far no news yet..
I’m in Form 5 now. Interested to study med.
What is the options that I can choose after completing my SPM. Appreciate advises and guidance from seniors..:)
After SPM, u can either go matriculation, A level or STPM.. from matriculation, u can only enter local uni medicine. from STPM u can enter either local or private uni medicine depends on ur result. from A level u can enter private uni medicine only..
Then u can think whether u want to do in malaysia or overseas.. if overseas then u can go straight there and study their pre-U..
study hard. score straight A1 or 1A or whateve they call it nowdays. Bottomline score the top grades. Then u can apply for JPA scolarship. Then you can fly to UK, Ireland or Aussie. They give u good money. Can jalan jalan also.
After Aimst Foundation, if you want to switch university or college to pursue MBBS, try Manipal Melaka or MAHSA. During my batch, there are some who couldn’t get into MBBS after their Aimst Foundation, finally got into Manipal Melaka and MAHSA. Similarly, some from Cyberjaya College Foundation too got into Manipal Melaka. It’s not that their foundation results are not good, it’s the limited seat available in both Cyberjaya Medical College and Aimst University.
Can any seniors give some advises on which universities to choose for study MBBS locally? my preference is either UCSI or MSU,but some how or rather they said AIMST is good too,so I’m kinda confusing now.Any seniors or current MBBS students give me some guides or advises? Your helps is much appreciated~ Thanks in advance!
I will suggest UCSI as they are more established.. but in the end it’s still depends on urself.. Ur self-motivation, hard work etc..
If you choose UCSI or MSU, then you can have easy access to entertainment as they are situated in KL and the Klang valley. Aimst University specialised more on medical and health sciences course only. They do not have much choices of courses after their foundation pre-medical course. However, USCI has A-Z courses like music, engineering, ACCA accountancy, computer network design, communication, game structuring, animation, architecture and many, many others. It all depends on your own character, whether you want to specialise and study quietly or whether you are the outgoing type.
I just completed my SPM on 2011 and interested to study in dentisry. Is there any university to go for this course with full scholarship? So that I do not have to enter STPM. thank you.
JPA do give scholarship every year to top scholar in SPM to further their studies in the field of Dentistry and Medicine at Asian Inst of Medicine, Science & Technology University (or well known as Aimst University established more than 10 years ago). I don’t think JPA offer scholarship to the other medical college like MAHSA where they’ve Dentistry also. Other local private Univ like Monash Sunway, Taylors, Cyberjaya, UCSI, IMU, MSU, Alliance, UTAR, RCMP-UniKL, Masterskill, Segi and others only have Medicine MBBS / MD but do not have Dentisry degree course. AIMST University have its own Dentistry & Surgery Hospital inside their campus itself. All the hostels are also situated inside the 230 acres of campus compound. All Aimst University courses follow and collaborate closely with the University of Bristol, UK syllabus.
I just completed my SPM on 2011 and interested to study in dentisry. Is there any university to go for this course with full scholarship? So that I do not have to enter STPM. Can anyone give some advices? thank you.
I am SPM candidate 2011.I just got my results and I wish to study medical course. Is it study locally is better and cheaper? Is there any scholarships and awards to reduce my financial burden? The cost for medical course is too much for me.Is there any loans can apply to study medical course?Appreciate and thanks!
U can go straight to IMU, AIMST, Manipal or other local private uni and take up their pre-medic course then can straight enter medic after that.. And if ur SPM result is good, they can waive or reduce the fees.. then u can take PTPTN as loan.. Quite easy to get it.. so not to worry too much
Alright!Thank you!
It helps me a lot!
My daughter just obtain her SPM result. She is from ACC stream but she is now interested to medical science programme. What should she do in order to be in medical field.
Pls. help.
I think LWJ missed out recommending you RCMP-UniKL as well. I think it’s fairly good as well. Fees not too high RM277K. Clinical training at Ipoh Hospital opposite the campus. You must watch out for the clinical years in selecting medical schools. Some like UCSI are posted to Trengganu, Monash University Sunway has their clinical years at Johor Bahru on the 4th & 5th year, Lincoln Uni College – Sarawak Hospital (East Malaysia) for the 4th & 5th year even though the main campus at PJ.
hello guys ….i just only finished my spm 2011…and i already get my results…i scored straight A’s and i plan to pursue in either medicine or dentistry field….but the thing is that all the private universities and colleges are demanding high fee to study either this two course…i am here to ask that is there any scholaships that i can get to enter private universities or colleges to do medicine or dentistry course besides jpa scholarship because i am not really confident that i can get that scholarship….please help me…i will appreciate it….thank you…:)
As I have mentioned before, U can go straight to IMU, AIMST, Manipal or other local private uni and take up their pre-medic course then can straight enter medic after that.. And if ur SPM result is good, they can waive or reduce the fees.. the next semester will depends on ur previous semester result to decide whether to reduce or waive ur fees..then u also can take PTPTN loan.. Quite easy to get it.. so not to worry too much
Thanks for that LWJ ……it some sort of helped me but i do have another question….i heard that starting from this year ptptn will only give 50% loan to all the students who wants to continue their studies to higher level….if they give me loan 50%,i still have to pay the rest fee which is still quite expensive….i actually do not want to burden my parents…besides i have another elder brother who is studying in private university too…his course is also quite expensive…can u please help me to solve my problem on this….thanks
Agents keep telling me that chances of getting a seat in MBBS in AIMST after completing my foundation there, is zero.
Is that true?
If it is… that would be a waste if I did well for my Foundation.
One more thing, which other good universities can I enter if I really didn’t manage to get a seat for MBBS at AIMST?
I heard some need to enter other private uni.. Agents words u can take as reference but not believing it 100%.. hehe
Hmm… i would suggest IMU as i hear their medical course is one of the best in malaysia, and their MBBS graduates are given preference for jobs.. not sure how much this is true, but being the first and most well established private university must say something about its reputation. Plus, if you plan to work overseas and not locally, IMU offers a twinning program where you do your phase 1 in malaysia, and phase 2 overseas (about 30 university choices to choose from).. However, IMU is VERY expensive.. if you plan to go overseas, you would need at least 600k just for tuition fees.. and probably another 150k just for housing and food etc.
IMU is established but expansive.. yes, overseas r expensive but i saw students in Edinburgh doing well..
I just got my SPM results.I still want to continue my studies and I would like to choose pharmacist.
But my mom said it’s a really hard subject and discouraged me to study it.So,I’m so confused right now.
Is Aimst a good uni?
I scared I would be jobless after graduating from there.
why not do pharmacy in IMU? you can then transfer overseas and get an overseas degree?
How about medical universities in Indonesia such as Padjadjaran University and Gadjah Mada University? There are different stories I heard about it, some saying they are good while some saying not.
How about Indonesian medical universities such as Padjadjaran University and Gadjah Mada University? Is the reputation good? as it is cheaper, I wonder how is the quality?
I have met Prof Bambang, paed respiratory phyician from university of Indonesia.. I think reputation wise still will lose to UK university but may be better compared to some malaysia uni
now i hv decided to go to aimst for the foundation program…if i can get an excellent result in the foundation programme, can i get a scholarship for my degree program(medicine course)
Aimst University do not offer scholarship for degree courses. Only JPA give scholarship to student with excellent SPM result of at least 9A+ and above. Every year, JPA sent more than 60 students studying medicine and dentistry in Aimst. Previously, they use to advertise in their website that they do give a discount of RM1,000/= for each distinction scored in the SPM exam. However, ever since the number of student increases from 600 to 800 and now over 1,000 for the 3 intake per year, they have stopped the adverstisement on discount. However, as for poor student, you can still submit in your application and there are cases that they still give discount on foundation courses last year. Do try your luck.
i just finished my foundation is science in msu..i would like to continue my degree with forensic science..what u all think about this course?? and i have no idea which college should i choose to continue my degree locally…plzz help me…will appreciate it..
Sorry about that coz I’m not sure about forensic science..
If i have studied for MBBS in local private uni, is there any problem for me to continue my studies in postgraduate? i heard most of the MBBS courses conducted in malaysia private unis are only recognise locally which means i cant have/apply for my postgraduate studies oversea and work oversea too. If study locally, is it meant that i can apply postgraduate studies in um, usm, ukm? Pls help. Im thinking to study in aimst mbbs since i do not have the budget to take imu twinning programme but i really wanna try to have oversea experience so i might leave that thought after mbbs.
There are no local private uni that offers postgraduate program.. only the local gov uni such as UM, UKM & USM.. If u’re practising in malaysia then u have a chance to apply for local master program.. But local master programs are recognized by Malaysia only so u cant even work in Singapore. But u also can apply for MRCP, MRCPCH or MRCOG that are recognized in Malaysia.. Now u have not even entered medical school so don’t worry too much coz the policies will change by the time u have graduated! Previously MRCS is recognized then now NO MORE! So now MRCP is recognized but who knows few years later they de-recognized it? So if u like medicine just finish ur medical degree first before thinking of any specialization.
*If study locally, is it meant that i can only apply for local unis for postgraduate studies?
No, u can apply for other country program provided u have met their requirements
hye…
may i know the total cost for medic course??
i just got an offer from medicmesir n it look very interesting but the distance,hehe..
i really into this but it too far and it cost alot…
please give me your opinion!!!really need it…
It depends on location.. But basically it will need at least 200-300k for any uni.. Local Uni gov subsidize ma.. so u dont feel the pain
malaysia vs other country??
which one is better???
U have to see which country that u’re comparing.. UK? Indonesia? Russia? Australia? I think u know the answer better than me..
which medical school is better ?
aimst or manipal?
I would say Manipal
Can we pursue MRCP & FRCP locally or do we have to sit for the exam in UK and how long is the course of study before we can achieve the qualification? Can anyone advise.
MRCP can be taken locally in M’sia but FRCP is exit exam.. so u cant take FRCP before u have taken MRCP.. MRCP will be around 3-4 yrs depend on ur own effort
For your information-MRCP(UK/IRELAND) is an entry exam-you need to pass it before you can get registrar post for specialisation.
Whereas FRCP is not by exam, it is conferred to you by Royal College upon recommendation by another FRCP holder, after you hold MRCP(UK/IRE) more than at least 4yrs and work as consultant level.
Which is totally different from FRCS-by exam pathway.
Same goes to radiology-FRCR by exam pathway.
what to choose between Aimst and IMU???
IMU for sure
Do not get cheated. Definitely Newcastle University, Penang Medical College and lately Perdana University (RCSI) are way much better than IMU but you must compare the price and your affordability.
PMC is not that good as thought ok?! Newcastle is still new & RCSI is still new as well..
PMC brings you overseas for the first 2 years, then you have to come back to penang to do your horsemanship IN MALAYSIA LOCALLY for 3 years. That is if you really want to come back to work in malaysia..
However, IMU offers the opposite.. you do your 2.5 years in malaysia locally FIRST, then go OVERSEAS.. your degree would be worth much more as it is not a local malaysian degree. The medical degree you get will be form the uni you transferred to overseas.
Yes, that;s y u should go IMU instead of PMC
hello sir..im a spm leaver of 2012..n i scored straight a’s… (but nt straight a ++)
im looking 4ward 2 pursue ma study in medic field..i hav limited budgt..currently im in planning of joining aimst sir..but so far i heard that its not easy to get enrolled in medical degree prog at aimst after foundation due to limited seats available..and i heard of cucms 2 lately sir..is it recognised by mma?? and is it good to join there?? i nee
d advice in this matter..ur help is much appreciated..thank you
Yes, CUCMS is new and recognized by MMA.. if ur budget is limited, u can consider those new med school such as Masterskill or Mahsa which will be cheaper.. u can apply PTPTN once u get into the course so do not worry too much
Dear Nisha. CUCMS has got accreditation for 3 years from Malaysian Medical Council from December 2011. So don’t worry about qualification. Can always drop by Cyberjaya to learnt more about the university. tq
I am SPM leaver and I score staright As. 9A+. I only have limited budget and planning to go AIMST. But since the MBBS there is limited, I wan to ask that after i finish my foundation and cannot get MBBS, what uni else I can go? only Manipal and Mahsa you mentioned? then it is quite risky……
The foundation in AIMST can get into other uni medicine as well but im not too sure which uni will accept it.. I have some readers who experienced this before. But i’m sure AIMST will get u into a medical school by hook or by crook right? since u have sat for their foundation..
Hi
Im a doctor from Afghanistan that contry every body hear abut that.
I came to Malaysia to get my mastery but no eny university accept me.
There answer is medical consol dosenot accept Afghan digree(MBB).
PLS can any one help me?
U have to apply & sit for an exam if the medical counsel does not recognize your degree
I think Haidari can apply to sit for the MQE exam. Once you passed the exam, then you can apply for housemanship and subsequently register with the MMC.
The government has now extended to allow for unrecognised degree to sit for the MQE exam in one the following 16 recognised medical universities only in Malaysia;
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/5/2/nation/11212600&sec=nation
Since you a foreigner, you can take it in one of the private recognised university, say Aimst University, which will be much easier to register for the MQE exam.
Hi..i scored 10 As’ for my Spm but I missed the chance of getting the JPA scholarship by just 3 A+s…I did not receive any offer from neither matriculation nor any IPTAs…so i ended up doing foundation in science in a private college…i have been doing exceptionally well with the score of 4.0 flat for my 1st and 2nd semesters..currently i am working on my 3rd and final semester…my ambition is to become a doctor…due to the lack of financial aids…i have to pursue my studies in a local university..which would u suggest as the best place to do medicine while considering my situation financially? Is Lincoln University a good choice? Please advise…
U can always apply for PTPTN during ur medic course.. and since u have good result, u can waive or get 50% off for ur first sem and then subsequent sem depends on ur previous sem result
im chosen for matriculation (gov ) prog in selangor…ma ambiton is to bcum a doctor…if i join matriculation and didnt gt a gov uni,is ter any chances 2 get enrolled myself in any private uni later to do ma medical degree??do tey accept students from matriculation???
Nope, no private uni will accept matriculatin.. u have to retake A level or any similar exam to enter
Try this new university which we’ve just open in Perak. If your ambition is to become a doctor first before going into specializtion, then this new university situated will be right for you. The fees is the cheapest medical study in Malaysia, that is, RM225,000 for the five year course. After your government matriculation, definitely, we’ll accept you if you just meet our minimum requirement as stated clearly in this website;
http://www.piup.edu.my/index.php/faculties/faculties-bachelor-of-medicine-bachelor-of-surgery-mbbs
Its good to hear that mr tiong…the tuition fees is good than other private univ.
but unfortunately, the location is a bit far.
By th way, any hidden charges? I noticed, many private univ/college
for medicine is opened in perak/kedah now..congrats!
I’ve completed foundation in science in AIMST, as I know seats for MBBS in AIMST is very limited, I feel that it’s better for me to apply some other medical universities as well.
I’m considering CUCMS and Manipal
anyone ever heard about MBBS course in CUCMS and medical degree in Indonesia( such as Padjadjaran University or Gadjah Mada University)?
How’s the quality in these medical university?
I have seen medical graduates from Indon but not too sure which uni that they r from.. it depends.. some ok & some not so good.. but i suggest not to go indon for medical degree.. i heard some taught in Bahasa melayu
okay, thank you !
excuse me, i’m hesitating whether i should enter which uni for medicine. do you think MD UKM in Allianze University College of Medicine Science is better or MBBS in Malacca Manipal Medicine College is better?? Or should i consider Unikl? heard that the syllabus has changed in unikl two years ago. I would like to know about the new syllabus. appreciate if you can share some here.. Since the fees are almost the same for those, therefore i’m more interested abt the quality, thanks for your attention
I have not seen graduates from Allianze Uni yet.. Manipal is quite good.. lots hands on i heard.. syllabus wise wont differ that much..

Check out Quest International University Perak. Their fee is RM225k. Entry requirement is CGPA 3.25.
I’ve enquired from them during the roadshow that Quest University do accept foundation in science from other private universities/colleges that were approved by the Government on their foundation and degree courses.
Therefore, those with CGPA 3.25 and above from AIMST University but was rejected by AIMST for MBBS degree can actually apply for Quest MBBS degree. As for now, Quest do not have any quota because they are of university status. They have confirmed that as long as anyone met their minimun entry requirement approved by the government, they will definitely accept the applicant. Quest will also help candidates to apply for PTPTN loan of RM150 K, so you have to fork out the balance RM75 K for the tuition fees. This work out to be about RM15 K per year balance fees. Living expenses in Perak also wll not be that high as compared to KL.
Is it a good idea for a JPA holder to swift from UCSI to Perdana university? Ps heip! thanks
To fly swiftly from UCSI to Perdana is a good idea, especially, if you are studying for RCSI but to switch over to Perdana is not easy unless you got a very, very good reason that you can convince the JPA.
Does IMU have any financial assistance in its undergraduate studies for MBBS? like ptptn loan? which college to take a-levels is the best and most affortable and also provide loans? Thanks very much.

Yes, u can apply PTPTN or if ur result is good, i think they have scholarship
An advice for the students out there wishing to pursue a medical career..
Before you start cracking your head on which universities you want to do your medical studies.. Ask yourself the following few questions:
1. Why do I want to be a doctor?
If the first answer that comes in your money, fame, status, or desire to help people.. Seriously, there are way better jobs out there that offers better than this field..
Unless you are really sure that you are interested in the field itself and not these ‘rewards’, don’t bother asking yourself the next question..
2. Am I good enough to be a medical doctor?
Yeah, so you are really interested.. but can you keep up with the studies? This is something serious.. I’m pretty sure many of you will find yourselves with average or above average results and thinking that as long as you have the passion for the field, you will get through.. Yes, of course.. the old saying goes “A genius doctor may not be a good doctor” but the cold hard truth is that a doctor who has poor knowledge can never be a good doctor no matter how well he/she treats her patients. So, if studying has never been your forte, DON’T think you can do better in medical school. The fact is excellent students are just average in medical school and average students will do much worst..
3. Ok.. so you have the brains.. But, are you mentally tough?
Many of my friends from medical school and colleagues in hospital are brilliant students, but they cannot withstand the mental strain of being a medical student/doctor. As a result, they went to bouts of depression and some even went bipolar.. all for the sake of a medical degree.. Most of them drop out from medical school and some of them pushed on but ended up getting extended over and over again as chronic HOs. Few of them made it to become MOs, but never again had the confidence to stand up to their own decisions. You have to possess and staunch sense of confidence in yourself to be able to withstand all this field has to throw at you..
4. So how are you going to pay for all your medical fees?
Personally, I feel that paying hundreds of thousands for your medical studies are NOT worth it.
If you answer positively to all the 3 questions above, I don’t see why you cannot obtain a scholarship or secure a spot in the local government universities (The fees in local gov uni is negligible). Just do the calculations yourself.. The total expenses to study in IMU + your living expenses + etc = RM400,000. As a HO, let’s put your net income as RM5000/month, you need 80 months(arnd 6-7 yrs) to pay back your costs and that is providing you have no expenses at all!! The truth is, you will never be able to recover back the costs of your studies entirely.. And having to deal with financial issues while you are struggling with your medical career will steer you to a career path based on profitability alone..
UNLESS, your parents are filthy rich and this amount of money is nothing to you or your family.. then by all means go ahead with it and disregard this section.
5. Finally.. which university should I choose?
Ok.. this is very subjective.. And I am offering my opinion based on the current situation in Government Hospitals. This ranking will only be applicable for those who will be pursuing your careers locally (which most of you all will ended up doing)
1. Established local government universities (UM, USM, UKM)
Some may disagree but the fact that these three universities has been churning up graduates for decades means that most of the MOs, specialists and consultants are from these 3 universities. Like it or not, they will form their ‘alumni’ and will prefer HOs from their own universities. Graduates from these 3 universities can expect to breeze through their housemanship provided they are not trouble makers (there are always a few bad seeds)
2. Established local private universities (IMU, MMMC, PMC, AIMST)
So far, I have encountered most HOs from these private universities and they are quite brilliant. They only lost to the above three universities in terms of not having a wide alumni(most of their seniors opted for private practice) but their skills and knowledge can quickly win their superiors admiration. They also have the advantage of having their clinical years trained locally.
3. Overseas universities from first world country (UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand)
They ranked third mainly because of their lack of exposure to local clinical settings. Unless you are opting to work overseas, local clinical exposure is one of the most important assets to have as a HO. Some had the foresight to do their clinical electives locally and can offset a bit of their disadvantages. Otherwise, their superior training shows in their day-to-day clinical judgement and knowledge.
4. Relatively new local government universities (UPM, UNIMAS, UMS, IIUM, USIM, etc)
Being relatively new means they are often neglected by the Higher Ministry of Education in terms of funding and more importantly teaching staffs and materials.
Also the lack of alumni among the senior members of the hospital may put them in a disadvantage. However, most are brilliant and quickly adapt to the field.
6. New local private universities
With the mushrooming of private universities, one can hardly keep up with the variety of HOs that have graduated from these unis, and many of them are still untested. One word of advice, STAY AWAY from these unis, the fact that many of them are profit driven means that their future are really a big question marks. You would not want to be known as the MO who graduated from the university that has now bankrupted or merged with another uni. Where u grad from is important and will stick to you your whole life. Even your official stamp will have the name of your uni after your MD, MBBS, or MBBChBAO.
7. Other overseas universities
Middle East countries
Their knowledge are average at best and are not so used to local settings. But most are able to adapt fast and at the 2nd year of their housemanship, most have already fitted into the community.
Indonesia
These are a tricky bunch. Many do not know that Indonesia doesn’t have a generalized syllabus for their medical schools and one uni can differ greatly from another uni. Their graduates range from very efficient to downright absurd. I am not an expert with Indonesian universities but please do your research properly before applying for indonesian university. Stay away from universities that teaches in Indonesian language and not English. Some will have proper clinical exposure but most will be limited exposure where they don’t allow ‘foreigners’ to touch their patients.. So do your research!
Russia and Ukraine
To be fair, quite a number of these graduates are good and very hardworking. But the fact that these names are so tarnished in the hospitals that you will be immediately judged by the country you graduated from. And sadly, most of the time HOs from these countries are disappointing. Not mentioning the fact that they are basically rushed through their medical years on an express bus, most are not interested of being a doctor or have very wrong expectation of what a doctor’s life would be. They ended up being irresponsible, sub-par and always targeted by their superiors.
These are my personal opinion and feel free to disagree. My purpose is to provide a preview of what to expect before you step into this career. All the best for those who decided to brave through the journey!
Can I have your views on India also? I will be going there in September to MS Ramiah, Bangalore. TQ
hai there. i want to make some confirmation.
how about you guys opinion about MAHSA college? i really need to know some experiences or some sharing ideas in good private college.
thnx u 4 all ur response.
Mahsa is still new & not much comment on it..
Dear medical aspirates,
before you go on and commit not only a hefty sum but also a significant amount of years into this particular cause, please read the writings by this senior doctor.

You need to stop believing the fairytale told by villagers or the retiring old GP’s in your area and wake up to a very realistic future before you. The aim of doing so is not to dissuade you from the medical profession but to make sure you know of your choices and options before taking the plunge.
Warm regards,
Olivia

The Malaysian universities recognised by World Health Organization and the Avicenna Directory of recognised medical studies internationally :-
http://avicenna.ku.dk/database/medicine/
Only the big five in Malaysia are listed.
Which is the best medical university in Malysia?
If you exclude the public universities in Malaysia which is for the VVIP thru’ the Asasi Matrikulasi channel, then only the four main private universities as listed in the World Health Organisation (WHO) / Avicenna ‘s website is definitely good enough for local environment;
http://avicenna.ku.dk/database/medicine/
The only difference is the price / tuition fees.
Public maybe UKM or USM.. private should be IMU
i have a big dilemma now~i have been offered scholarship by jpa for medicine in segi university college and chemical engineer in university malaysia pahang~…i heard that medicine in segi is a new course~is it gud?. ..ask for advice…should i go for which one?

How much is IMU’s fees in Euro?
Local IMU should be around Rm500k or 100k Euro.. With twinning to UK should be around Rm700-800k or 150K Euro

N last but nt least after being a doctor, is it very busy n tiring (as my friend told me that being a doctor will hv limitted time for your own). Is it true?
Yes, u have limited time after becoming doctor.. studying is still ok.. u can cope it if u put some effort in it..
What do u meant by limited time?
u have long working hours.. at least 10 hours per day.. so u dont have much time left..

N last but not least, will the time for your own become limitted when u become a dortor because my friend told me that being a dortor is very tiring n busy job….
Yes, u have limited time after becoming doctor.. studying is still ok.. u can cope it if u put some effort in it..
The minimum requirement to study medicine anywhere is STPM right?
SPM graduates cannot enter medicine course?
u meant local Uni or what? U can take O’level or even their own pre-U to enter medicine
i’m studying medicine in moscow medical academy(MMA) in russia and its very good there.. the people there are very kind… and the lecturers are very good..

Q: whetehr i can still pursue both medicine or veterinary even without biology and if i still want to do it any advise? tq
can.. u can even take medicine if u took physics in STPM lol
I want to study biomedical science, do you know any affordable, good universities in malaysia?
sorry, im not familiar with biomedical science
Hi Sofia before i did MBBS i actually did Biomedical Science (Hons) at the International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur. It is a 3 year program whereby you can do all 3 years in Malaysia locally, or you can do the Twinning program (1.5 years in Malaysia + 1.5 years at the University of Newcastle Australia, or University of Otago New Zealand). If you do the twinning program, you will end up receiving a degree from whichever university you decided to go to overseas, and not a malaysian degree. This breakup of 1.5 years locally and overseas actually makes the degree quite affordable if you’re looking to get an overseas degree.
Hi, can I have some details about study medical in Monash University? Is it good? I am thinking to send my daughter there.
Monash doesn’t have any end of posting or final professional examination.. meaning all students successfully go into 5th year will eventually pass.. lol.. there will be no formal examination to test whether u’re competent to be a doctor or not.. but i have seen some good Monash students around.. and the lecturers are good as well..
Correction:
1) There is an exit exam in the fifth year but it doesnt have much of an implication to the degree.
2) Mostly students are assessed in the fourth year where most of the “exit exams” are held. In that year alone, they have to sit and pass all their VIA, 2 EOS, and all OSCEs. They are expected to be competent prior to being released as a pre-intern in the fifth year which is why the exit exam doesn’t have much of a role.
3) Having that said, there might be change to the system where they might make passing the exit exam compulsory.
*3) As in passing the exit exam in the final year compulsory.
hi lwj,
Your page has been very useful for me . I would like to ask you if there is any medical school in malaysia that offers twinning programme to australia ,other than IMU .
thank you.
lyn.
Im afraid no other uni offers such thing..
Hi, I’m a SPM leaver who’s practically torn bout’ what I should do. I plan to pursue medicine but at the moment I’m still wondering if I shud do my foundations or a-levels? I know that foundations is cheaper and so much easier and is indeed a better option if I’ve made up my mind bout what I wanna do but what if I do well and get a JPA scholarship, will I be able to go overseas with that foundations ? Will it be accepted ? And the same way goes for a-levels, I mean what if I don’t get JPA, it’ll be a huge waste right cuz I could’ve just done foundations and save more money. I’m not rich and I really want to nail a scholarship to go overseas but this is really cracking me up. I’d appreciate some useful ideas and suggestions
U have limited budget then just wait for JPA scholarship.. it wont differ that much if u start slightly earlier.. A level will be recognized in more countries while foundation is only limited to few choices depends on what foundation that u r taking
Hello There. I discovered your blog the usage of msn.
This is a very smartly written article. I’ll be sure to bookmark it and come back to read more of your helpful info. Thanks for the post. I will certainly return.

Thx for the info.
Thx LWJ.
what is the different in terms of requirements if i were to complete A- Level or Form 6 ? I have interest to go private.
It depends on which private uni u wanna enter.. some require better result while some not so.. but mostly will need min of CGPA 3.8 i think.. i’m not too sure about current situation since they are more private uni now,.. especially the newly open uni maybe they will accept lower CGPA
Hi im a current student in IMU for the august 2012 intake MBBS. I’m not sure about other universities but competition in IMU is VERY tough.. I did the International Baccalaureate with 39/45 points and i was still put on the waiting list until 2 weeks ago (minimum entry requirement 30 points).. i have friends who got straight A’s in all their sciences in A levels but still did not manage to get a spot.. If you do A levels, i suggest you get straight As, plus show them any extra activities you did in school to separate you from the rest as a prospective student.
Try IMU which is so much easier to get a place for medical studies. As it is about 200K more expensive than most other private universities, there are not many applicant to compete with. Even if you fail to get a place for the IMU local degree, there are so many IMU partner twinning universities overseas which you can choose from. Don’t worry, it is not like AIMST University where you have to fight for a place with government JPA scholars, its own 900 pre-u student yearly and also 300 over applicant from STPM / A-Levels / government sponsored Matrikulasi.
As I’m a student at IMU itself, I’ve never heard of any pre-U or Foundation student from KBU Damansara who could not get a place in medical at IMU. If you take the IMU Foundation in Science at KBU Damansara, you’re almost quaranteed place at IMU if your parent got the budget.
IMU is tough i know.. that;s y their standard quite good.. get STPM 4 flat & u can get in almost for sure.. lol
Yes, you’re correct. Don’t try to be the smart Alex to take A-Levels or STPM if you’ve no confidence. IMU, like any other private universities, prefers their own Foundation in Science course from KBU College at Damansara. If you meet the minimum requirement, something like credit B in Science SPM subjects and Foundation studies, it is enough. The only difficult thing for some parent is to come out with the initial first semester tuition fees and all the deposits within two weeks of the letter of offer.
Well i agree with some aspects of DoeJ. IMU is more expensive and it’s true, there isn’t a surplus of pre-U students unlike AIMST. Speaking as an outsider with a masters in business and economics, we can use simple economics to understand why the fees of IMU are so high.. Due to IMU’s twinning program with numerous universities word wide (the only university i know with such a wide range of choices), the demand for students who want to go overseas increases exponentially each year especially in malaysia. With increased demand for such a program that transfers students overseas for Phase 2 instead of vice versa, the supply (intake) of students would be limited, hence, increasing price. Which explains the extravagant fees for the twinning program in IMU (about RM1million total tuition fees for the transfer option) compared to a local degree from AIMST (not sure if the students from AIMST have the option to transfer overseas to get an internationally recognised degree? please correct me if i’m wrong and i apologise)
Not sure if AIMST transfers overseas, but it would be more ideal to study in AIMST if you prefer to work locally. Why spend the extra cash in IMU for a local degree after all right? It’s common sense.
If i may give some constructive criticism, ANY medical school, wether it be IMU or AIMST would be just as competitive to get into, and in ANY medical school, the stated minimum requirement is NEVER enough to guarantee a spot. So do not just try to achieve the minimum requirements (even at KBU damansara) because your application for that particular year may have all high-achieveing students, which may affect your entry to medical school. Decide for yourself whether you wish to work locally or overseas, as well as your financial status (unless you’re under scholarship of course)..
The way i see it, the fact that students who go to IMU are aware that they are paying more for their tuition fees and still go ahead with it must either mean two things: either they are so rich that the extra few hundred thousand ringgit doesn’t matter to them, or they heard through word of mouth from people that the quality of the degree has value and is worth the money. Word of mouth is a powerful thing to human perception
. Also, keep in mind that because IMU is the only private medical university that gives you numerous choices of medical universities to transfer to overseas, the majority of students who go there must be going for that option. Because like i said earlier, students who wish to work locally have many other cheaper local university options to choose from to obtain a local degree and practice in malaysia. Therefore, getting a spot for the transfer program overseas in IMU should be harder than getting a spot for the IMU local degree no? those students who opt for but Fail to get a spot overseas would then choose to stay locally. Not the other way round as DoeJohn stated.
I’m just stating my opinion here and there hoping to spark up some reader’s brainwaves
.. My point is, IMU or AIMST or wherever anyone is doing medicine doesn’t matter as long as you know for yourself that being a doctor is what you always wanted. Doctors are doctors anywhere in the world with the same goal.. Just have to love what you do by showing minimal effort with maximal results.
Yes, IMU is one of the best local private med school around.. If possible, just get into IMU
i have finished my pre u and planning to do medcine in MSU.im thinking of taking up their twinning programe…which will be in bangolore M.S Ramaiah!!some of my friends say that that university in bangolre is good!!how true it is?and i will graduate with MSU certificate if im not mistaken..will i face any problem in future as a HO??and, what is so great about doing medcine in India?
I have seen graduates from Manipal but not Bangalore.. Manipal graduates are good! But u have to see whether the clinical years are in Bangalore or M’sia coz Manipal U clinical years are in M’sia.. U only go Manipal India for pre-clinical years..
I SEE…we can choose to do full five years in banglore or 5 years in MSU malaysia…but some of my friends told me if we do well in pre clinical years in malaysia, then we can convince them so that we do clinical years in banglore!!!no matter wad,the cert is from MSU…i have never seen any doctors from MSU..thats why im worried if MSU is good or not
