After completing my year 3 in Sibu, i realized that year 1 & 2 are no match for year 3 at all!
During basic sciences, we only attend lectures, listen & then print out lecture notes to memorize.. lol
Sometimes we do read the books.. Guyton, Ganong, Robbins..
But now in clinical years, we do not have lectures from lecturer.. in fact, we have lectures from our colleagues..
I just wanna jot down something over here so that next time i can recall back i have done in year 3
Lecturers
I like Prof Khin Tun’s saying “We do not fail students, it is the students who fail themselves”
Yeah, this is definitely correct!
If u did KNS well, do u think any lecturer will fail u?
If u don’t even know the basics, do u think any lecturer will let u go?
Yes, i agree that there are different expectations from different lecturers..
Some lecturer expect u to do this in Year 3 but some did not..
So if u fail to do so, they will fail u..
I got Paeds posting as my 1st posting..
Lot ppl said “Sueh la, if get medicine posting 1st then better!”
But i would tell them now “It doesn’t matter, lets say if the tradition is paeds start first then only medicine, then suddenly they put medicine first, do u think they will be happy?”
They said malignant lecturers are
Paeds: Dr Ooi
O&G: Prof Syamsir, Dr Awi
Surgery: Prof Khin Tun, Mr. Ashok
Medicine: Dr Wong, Dr Ye
But to me, at first i was scared to get them as my examiner as well..
However, after getting Dr Awi in O&G (short case), Prof Khin Tun & Mr Ashok (long case), Dr Wong (Short case), i changed my thinking..
I would say they are awesome during the exams!! lol
At least they passed me
Actually they are good, just too good until the students are afraid they ask very high standard questions..
Yes, they will bomb u with all those high-tech questions until u faint if u can answer their questions correctly.. Only if that then they will ask bombastic questions..
They DO NOT ask those bombastic questions in the 1st place..
In fact, they asked those very basic questions until u pening also..
Books
In Paeds, i used Sunflower, Nelson, Protocol.. That’s it.. nothing else.. sometimes very little other books but not significant enough..
In O&G, i used Prof Azhar A LOT, Illustrated almost 70%, Ten Teachers NOT even 20% i think.. haha.. then lot those small photostated books..
In Surgery, i used Bailey almost ALL the time, Gardens sometimes, Short case.. that’s it..
In Medicine, i used Kumar both big & small, Oxford, UM short cases etc.. Other books little here & there..
