For those who are pregnant please do not play it.. Hehe..
Quoted from Wikipedia..
Harlequin-type ichthyosis (also harlequin ichthyosis, ichthyosis congenita, or keratosis diffusa fetalis), a skin disease, is the most severe form of congenital ichthyosis, characterized by a thickening of the keratin layer in fetal human skin. In sufferers of the disease, the skin contains massive, diamond-shaped scales, and tends to give off a reddish color. In addition, the eyes, ears, mouth, and other appendages may be abnormally contracted. The scaly keratin greatly limits the child’s movement. Because the skin is cracked where normal skin would fold, it is easily pregnable by bacteria and other contaminants, resulting in serious risk of fatal infection.
Sufferers are known as harlequin fetuses, harlequin babies, or harlequins.
The harlequin-type designation comes from both the baby’s apparent facial expression and the diamond-shape of the scales (resembling the costume of Arlecchino), which are caused by severe hyperkeratosis. The disease can be diagnosed in the uterus by way of fetal skin biopsy or by morphologic analysis of amniotic fluid cells obtained by amniocentesis. In addition, doctors can now usually recognize common features of the disease through ultrasound, and follow up with 3D ultrasound can diagnose the condition.
What genes are related to harlequin ichthyosis?
Mutations in the ABCA12 gene cause harlequin ichthyosis.
The ABCA12 gene makes a protein that is essential for the normal development of skin cells. This protein appears to play a major role in the transport of lipids (fats) in the outermost layer of skin (the epidermis). Some mutations in the ABCA12 gene prevent the cell from making any ABCA12 protein. Other mutations lead to the production of an abnormally small version of the protein that cannot transport lipids properly. The loss of functional ABCA12 protein disrupts the normal development of the epidermis, preventing the skin from forming an effective barrier and resulting in the hard, thick scales characteristic of harlequin ichthyosis.
How do people inherit harlequin ichthyosis?
This condition is likely inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, which means both copies of the gene in each cell have mutations. Most often, the parents of an individual with an autosomal recessive condition each carry one copy of the mutated gene, but do not show signs and symptoms of the condition.

dude,
dat was damn geli lo..eww
bt pitiful lea
actually i saw dis mths ago, where my fren showed me n told me the story
stg bout the mother had offended the snakes,so the baby kena lo..my fren told me dat dia kinda thing is a taboo der in Mecca, the holy city,if any1 offended anything, they will get the retribution either on themselves or the children.
she further showed me another videoclip fr mecca,i saw a woman-like fish lying on the bed,nt a mermaid of cz,looks much more horrible den tht,i can c the 2 human legs fused into 1 n ended wt a tail,i can c her breast n genital, they r saying the girl had offended the fish n show disrespect, she told in front of her mum while her mum reprimanded her n asked her to respect, her mum when she came bc fr outside jz a short while, she saw tht fish ady on the bed, they assumed tht it is her daughter.
but whatever, whether u believe it onot,jz want to share this to u.
The bottom line is how to you treat it! WE don’t want explanations, we need answers!
scare eh pls dont show these photos. shld be treated p & c very very scary
sorry la..hehe..coz i saw it then feel very geli at first..then still ok.. coz my 5th year senior saw it before in hospital..if not mistaken..so just wanna share with u all..
about the taboo stuff,i’m not sure
but since i’m studying medical stuff i will prefer scientific explanation while not forgetting the traditional belief as well..
lol did you copy the treatement and care from wikipedia?
hehe..no la..other web.. lol..
but the baby will mostly die off i think..u cant treat a mutated baby..just like down syndrome..
so the baby will grow up like this as well till he/she passes away..
yup, wat wei juan said about treatment and care , we can imagine it too.. however, its really pitiful…maybe stem cell research can help to grow back the loss cells. and it is really horrible for the keratin layer to harden… well i might juz ask the parents and perform euthanasia on the child cuz it might be a burden to poor parents and the child will not have to suffer for the rest of his life…
it’s illegal for euthanasia in malaysia.. not possible if follow rules.. hmm…erm.. i think stem cell cant cure it.. coz it’s the gene prob not the stem cell..even u do stem cell but the gene is still defective so the outcome of the gene will be the same.. i think la.. not v sure..hehe
